In Painting on a wooden canvas of resonances, the violin and cello mainly rub their bodies together. In what appears at first to be a monotonous sound, there is room to explore different tones of noise and different rhythms that are associated with subharmonics of a very low C. Whenever the actual duration of a rhythm is played, the sound is resonated by the harmonic with the same number as the subharmonic. The work creates a little-explored direct connection between rhythm and pitch. The strings of the instruments also sometimes function as new fundamentals through the use of natural harmonics, creating new relationships that go beyond the fixed use of a series. As the title indicates, the noise and pure frequencies resemble the act of painting on a wooden canvas of resonances.
